Since the very beginning, there have been steps to follow to succeed, many have taken those steps and have become successful. When you follow any process or steps to a certain goal you can expect a positive outcome.

What are the steps to follow to get a fibre optic connection?

  1. Check for fibre availability in your area: Fibre optic cables are still being installed in some areas and if your area doesn’t have a fibre connection cable close by your residential area it might be a problem.
  2. Choose a service provider: Your business or home will have to look at which service provider offers the best broadband package that suits the business or household needs best. Once you have chosen the service provider, they will contact the local fibre optic company which will be handling the installation process.
  3. Authorisation requirements: Depending on where your residential area is situated you might have to request consent from the estate owner or building owner if you are situated on a premise that doesn’t belong to you. The self-contained homes won’t need any consent because the fibre can then be installed directly from the street to the home.
  4. Site scope visit: Your local fibre company will schedule a pre-installation appointment to come and inspect which ways to follow to get the fibre optic connection. There are options to consider if the fibre cable will be installed underground or an aerial will be used. The local fibre company will give you an advance on which option best suits your residential area. The placement of your External Termination Point (ETP) and Optical Network Terminal (ONT) will also be established in the pre-installation appointment.
  5. Installation of fibre from street to home: The installation plan that was agreed on will be implemented by the local fibre optic company where they will be connecting the fibre optic cable from the street to the home or business building External Termination Point.
  6. Internal connection: Once the External Termination Point has been successfully established outside your home there is going to be an internal connection which is called the Optical Network Terminal which is normally a small box found inside your home. The fibre cable will be brought from the outside to the inside of your home. The technician will do all the wiring and the testing of the connection.
