The importance of testing fibre optic ends

In the times we are in, everything is scientific proven or tested. For example, when buying a car, we take it for a test drive just before choosing the vehicle of your choice. The fibre network can be tested for its quality and effectiveness. There are different effective ways to verify the transmission within the network.

Coreline fibre is here to switch from buffing to a live stream that never buffers. The services we provide include civil work, connecting the fibre, design & planning, which is done by one team, and we also do horizontal drilling. Your life matters at Coreline fibre; hence we follow the Coreline Fibre “Life-Saving Rules” to ensure that the associated behaviours will be able to prevent injuries and fatalities. The rules we have in place are there to create a safe working environment because your life matters.

What are some ways in which an optical fibre connection can be tested?
  • OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometer) – This testing method tests the fibre cable’s length and attenuation. Faults and any interruptions can also be tested using the OTDR. The OTDR can be conducted to test and find things like physical breaks, stress points or any splices found in the connection.
  • Visible light source test – The visible light source testing is the most basic way to test if there is any continuity in the cable. The optic fibre cable system relies on the light in the infrared spectrum and is invisible to the human eye. Yet there are devices which can be used which generate visible light for the conducted tests. Visible light source testing is used to find the faults or locate the visual fault.
  • Power Meter and light source testing – The power meter and light source testing is also known as the one-jumper or single-jumper method, which accurately measures any signal loss that occurs in the end-to-end fibre connection.
Tools which can be used to conduct the testing:
  • Attenuators
  • Fibre Inspection & Cleaning
  • Fibre identifiers
  • Fault Locators
  • Fibre Monitoring
  • Fibre Optic Light Source
  • Fibre Optic Sensors
  • Fibre Optic Testers
  • MPO Testing
  • OTDR & Fibre Characterization
  • Optical Multimeter
  • Optical Power Meters
Why is it important to test fibre optic cable?

When a fibre network is tested, the following is seen in its performance:

  • The performance increases once testing is done. When testing is not done, you won’t be able to enjoy the network’s bandwidth and speed.
  • The distance and lifespan will be tested. The longevity of the network will be tested and increased as required.
  • Sidestep the downtime in your network by having testing done from time to time.
  • Having the updated version of your network is essential to enjoy the bandwidth, speed, lifespan, and updated version of your fibre optic system network.

It is crucial to do fibre optic cable testing to experience the network at its best. Get your network tested because you can harvest the benefits of having a network that works smoothly and effectively. Get your fibre tested!
