Micro trenching:
Micro-trenching is a technique used for fibre-laying that uses specialised machines to cut a narrow and shallow trench, typically cut into a road surface along the pavement where the tarmac and curb meet. The traditional ways of laying fibre entail a technique that requires a larger trench to be dug – in contrast to micro trenching. The micro-technique reduces the deployment time and is much more secure against the chances of being damaged by any surrounding infrastructure. The micro-trench is roughly 30-50 millimetres wide and can be up to 400 millimetres deep but, for the use of fibre – it is usually 200 millimetres deep. Once the trench is dug – the fibre conduit and cable are placed inside and are then backfilled and sealed with a specialised trench grout which will restore the road back to its original surface.
